Hypnosis & Spiritism

Hypnosis is the art of planting thoughts into other people’s minds. Hypnotists are also known by the name of mezmerizers.

Hypnosis can be divided into various categories, based on the kind of trance the hypnotist uses to do her job.

For instance, psychic entertainer Jon Finch utilizes hypnosis to apparently discern minds.

His skills incorporate suggestion, ideomotor responses, catalepsy, imagination.

Hypnosis refers to a state of human consciousness that involves focused attention and a reduced awareness of the peripheral as well as an increased capacity to respond to suggestion. It could also refer to the art, technique, or act of inducing the state of hypnosis.

Theories of what happens during hypnosis are divided into two categories. ‘Altered state’ theories see the hypnosis process as an altered state of mind, or Trance, characterized by a state of consciousness distinct from the usual conscious state. Contrary to this, nonstate theories see hypnosis as an imaginative form of role enactment.

The most familiar kind of hypnosis is to peek at goals via suggestion. However, different forms of hypnosis are sometimes included.

When hypnotized, a person is said to have heightened focus and concentration. Attention is narrowed down to the subject that is in front of them, and the hypnotized individual appears to be in a state of trance or sleep state, and has the ability to react to suggestion. A person might experience partial amnesia, allowing them to forget items or completely forget past or current memories. It is also believed that they respond more strongly to suggestions, which could explain why the person might enact activities outside of the normal behavior patterns.

Some experts believe that hypnotic susceptibility is linked to personality traits. People who are highly hypnotized by psychotic, narcissistic, or Machiavellian personality characteristics may feel the hypnotic experience to be more like being controlled by others rather than being managed. However, people with an altruistic personality type will be able to remember and take in suggestions more easily and act upon their suggestions with confidence, without fearing for their safety.

Theories describing the hypnotized state describe it variously as a state that is characterized by high intensity and attentional focus as well as changes in brain activity, levels of consciousness, or dissociation.

In popular culture the word “hypnosis” often brings to thoughts stereotypical depictions of stage hypnosis involving the dramatic transformation of an awake state into an euphoric state. It is usually associated with the subject’s arm dropping hypnotically to their side, the suggestion that they’re drunk or sleepy, and a subsequent demand that they do something. The stage hypnosis process is typically performed by an entertainer who plays the role of the professional hypnotist. The person’s consent is demonstrated by putting them in a state of trance where they will accept and comply with the suggestions made to them.

“Hypnosis” is a term that refers to “hypnosis” can be used to describe non-state phenomenon. There has been some argument that the results observed in hypnotic inductions are simply instances of classical conditioning and the responses that have been learned from prior experiences in hypnosis. However, it is generally agreed upon within the field that when hypnosis is artificially produced to create states with high suggestibility (known as ‘trance logic’), there is a high degree in linguistic, cognitive,, and cognitive function that is normal even though it could be extremely concentrated. This strange result has been speculated as the result of two cooperating processes working in opposition: one becoming more focused, the other process becoming less focused. The hypnotic subject is able to experience a narrowing of their focus, yet simultaneously, a heightened ability to concentrate on matters that relate to the hypnotist’s suggestion.

There are multiple theories about what is actually happening in the brain when someone is hypnotized. However, there is an agreement on the fact that it’s a combination of a focused concentration and a state of altered consciousness.
